About Us

Troop 3’s History

Troop 3 was first chartered in 1947. According to records at the Narragansett Council in East Providence, RI, Boy Scouts Of America (BSA) Troop 3 Newport was chartered by the Sheffield School Parent Teacher Organization in 1947. The original Scoutmaster was Francis Marshall and it started with 11 scouts. We are chartered by the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America.

In 2023, we began planning efforts to leverage our collective talents and offer our program to local girls. We’re now establishing BSA Scout Troop 3 (G) for local girls and we invite online registrations.  If interested in playing a role in Troop 3’s history, please contact us.

In the past 75 years, over 96 Eagle Scouts have passed their Eagle Board of Review under the Troop 3 flag. Many members, part of a military family, spent a year or two here and completed their Eagle requirements elsewhere.  For example, one recent Troop 3 member completed his formal Eagle Board of Review at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

We’d love to hear from you.
